Satellite and Earth-observation operators and flood-map providers need to decide where and when to image, and to validate their remote-sensed flood maps against ground observations. Independent ground-truth is a recognised, persistent gap: flood-extent outputs vary significantly between suppliers, and SAR struggles in urban areas and for fast-moving flash floods.

Media is where independent, on-the-ground reports of a flood show up. FloodTags collects, classifies and geolocates that media automatically, giving these teams a fast, independent reference to confirm, correct or cue their own flood maps, rather than the occasional, by-hand checks the field has relied on.

Use that cue to task or schedule acquisition over the affected areas at the right moment, so your constellation captures the flood while the water is still visible rather than after it has receded.

One subscription, live and through the API

For satellite and Earth observation, clients use Operational Mode to work events live and cue acquisition, with API access to feed event detection and validation data into their own tasking or mapping systems. The Flood Presence Report shows where water was reported per area, to validate your flood map. Tailored analyses, such as historical validation datasets or an Event Time-series, are a separate track on request.

Validating remote-sensed flood maps

ICEYE, which operates a large SAR satellite constellation and a flood-mapping service, uses FloodTags’ media-derived ground observations to validate its remote-sensed flood extents and to support satellite tasking. Event detection flags where and when flooding is happening, which a team can use to cue acquisition, and the geolocated ground observations are compared against the remote-sensed flood maps to catch false positives and false negatives, particularly in urban areas and for flash floods where SAR is unreliable or too slow.
